About Me
My name is Kelebek. I am a Belly Dance Fusion Artist from lovely south jersey. I perform as a soloist and as part of the duo Radiant Moontrance. I am originally from Brooklyn NY and I started dancing at an early age, 2. My music of choice was the sound of the washing machine going (not joking-there is actual footage). I started dance lessons at 6. I first fell in love with belly dancing at the age of 10 while visiting a Middle Eastern festival in Greenwich, New York. The first professional dancer I saw was the incomparable Nourhan Sharif. I began belly dancing a few years ago with mother who wanted to take classes, but didn’t want to go by her-self. So I signed up for a two hour workshop by myself and then signed up for a six week session with my mom. I drove 3 and half hours every Saturday to take lessons with her. When the series was over, we each pursued additional studies in our home states.
I volunteered to write for the local events section because I am a loyal patron to and visitor to the Phillyraqs.com and I was disappointed to see the section discontinued after 2007. Plus, I now have an excuse to go to as many events as possible, because now, this is considered research. The reviews are based on my own personal experiences while attending events. No two people will have the exact same experiences hence your opinion may differ from mine. Occasionally, I will interview other dancers and spectators at events just to get a different perspective. These are my honest opinions, which are never meant to offend anyone. Again, this is just my point of view. I am not a critic, so there is no rating system. I do try to spotlight those individuals that catch my attention. I do my best to acknowledge everyone but that is not always possible. I like to stay current and by attending as many events as my schedule allows. However, I do attend at least one a event a month and I try to have my views posted monthly.
